Expressions of love, sexuality, intimacy, and all types of communication, the fixation on female mouths as fashion accessory has run throughout history. Their prominence today in their present iteration as popularised by the instagram generation and the cartoonish augmented ideals of beauty standard have been rejected in these works. Taking inspiration from pre 90’s era lips before the vogue for cosmetic surgery and setting them against geometric shapes as a nod from the Memphis design movement has stripped them back. Deliberately disembodied and dominating the space, these lips are powerful, expressive, voracious. A reworking of the airbrush aesthetic, they are far from perfect despite adorned in lipstick through the application of acrylic paint subverting their retro styling. Each lip print is as unique as a fingerprint.
